Burkemper grew up in a family of builders, gaining his initial construction experience at the tender age of 11. Before long, he was working as a laborer and progressing through lessons in the various building trades. For 10 years prior to establishing Burkemper Homes, he worked as superintendent for Harold Burkemper, president of First St. Charles Construction Co.

Location, Burkemper says, has been vital to his success. Burkemper also understands his customers' needs and desires and works tirelessly to meet them. "Customers today want more," he says. "They expect more. And if you treat them right, they'll be your best salespeople."

That's why Burkemper strives to provide the very best in hands-on, personal service and meticulous attention to detail. "I feel more comfortable when I know exactly what's going on with each house," he says.

For the past five years, Burkemper has averaged 100 homes / villas per year, and is comfortable building up to 150 homes / villas per year. Beyond that, Burkemper says, he'd have to hire additional help, which would raise the price of his homes. His current staff consists of himself, an office manager and an assistant, a project manager, two experienced superintendents, customer service department manager, and a sales and marketing force.
